ABOUT THE BRIGHT EYED DAUGHTERS

The Bright Eyed Daughters Association is a non-profit-distributing voluntary association, which aims to promote knowledge of the history of the Hawick Common Riding for the benefit
of the general public and in the interest of education.
Set up, originally, for the funding of “The Kids Guide to Hawick Common Riding”, a book given to every p6 pupil in the Hawick Learning Community.

The association now has over 150 members and has published not only the “Kids Guide” but also, “My First Common Riding Book” for p1 pupils and an “Illustrated Guide to the Common Riding” for Adults and in 2014 “An Illustrated Translation of James Hoggs’ Teribus”.
There is also a Colouring In book available.

In early May and education day is held, where P6 pupils are taught about aspects of the Common Riding by people involved in the Common Riding.Pupils get to re-enact parts some of the ceremonies, learn songs and enjoy a picnic. As well as meet some special guests.

A dinner is held annually in May and our AGM is In March. The Committee also organises other fundraisers throughout the year to help fund our on going education programme and Hornshole landscaping.

Membership is open to all.
